SSD prices are set to’skyrocket’ for 2TB or larger models, so buy soon or you may regret it

SSD price increases have been a hot topic in the rumor mill for some time, and we now have another suggestion that prices for higher capacity consumer drives may rise even further.

According to Tom’s Hardware, an industry source indicates that 3D NAND packages containing four or eight NAND modules are currently in low supply. These packages are generally used for 2TB and 4TB SSDs, and manufacturers are now battling to secure supplies.

The conclusion is that drives in this capacity range, in particular, are expected to’skyrocket’ in price (the exact word used by the source), which sounds worrisome.

As a result, if you’re considering purchasing an SSD ranging from 2TB to 4TB, you should act immediately

Price increases are already visible, but considerably larger increases are possible later this quarter, in just a few months (maybe three months at the most).

Analysis: The Weight of Rumors

This is just a rumor, of course, so we must proceed with caution as with all conjecture, but it’s entirely plausible given the current climate surrounding these PC components, as well as the speculations concerning SSD price increases that have circulated in recent times.

TrendForce, an analyst firm, has been the source of some of that thinking, and the business has just released a new study for January 2024, which predicts increased demand for PCIe 4.0 SSDs and a 15% to 20% increase in consumer SSD costs in the near future.

This is only a rumor, so act with caution as with all guesswork, but it’s entirely feasible considering the current climate surrounding these PC components, as well as recent speculation about SSD price increases.

TrendForce, an analyst firm, has been the basis of part of that thinking, and the company recently released a new report for January 2024, which anticipates greater demand for PCIe 4.0 SSDs and a 15% to 20% increase in consumer SSD costs in the near future.
