Microsoft’s Copilot chatbot will soon receive six major enhancements, including ChatGPT’s new brain.

Microsoft has revealed that Copilot, the AI chatbot formerly known as Bing Chat, will shortly receive a slew of significant enhancements.

This set of enhancements should make the Copilot chatbot far more powerful in a variety of ways (both outside of and within Windows 11).

So, first and foremost, let’s go over the changes themselves (as detailed in a Microsoft blog post) before delving into how much of a difference they’re likely to make.

First and foremost, Copilot is getting a new brain, or more accurately, an enhanced brain in the form of GPT-4 Turbo. That is the most recent model of GPT from OpenAI, which makes a variety of improvements in terms of being generally better and more accurate.

An improved engine for Dall-E 3, the chatbot’s picture creation capability, offers higher quality outcomes that are more closely aligned with what the user has asked. This is currently active in Copilot.

Third, Microsoft says that Copilot will perform better with image searches, providing better results when you throw a picture at the AI to learn more about it.

Deep Search is another new feature that employs GPT-4 to “deliver optimized search results for complex topics,” as Microsoft puts it. This means that if you have a question for Copilot, it can generate a more detailed search request in order to produce better results. Furthermore, if the terms of your question are ambiguous and could potentially refer to various topics, Deep Search will investigate and make ideas to help you refine the inquiry.

Microsoft’s sixth scheduled upgrade is Code Interpreter, which, as the name implies, would aid in the completion of complicated activities such as coding, data analysis, and so on. The average user will not gain from this, but there will be those that will.

Finally, Copilot in Microsoft’s Edge browser will soon have a rewrite option (for inline text writing). You can use this to choose text from a webpage and have the AI rewrite it for you.

Analysis: Something to be concerned about for Google

There are some extremely beneficial improvements on the way. GPT-4 Turbo is an improvement (from GPT-4) that many Copilot users have been requesting, and Microsoft has confirmed that it is presently being tested with a restricted group of customers. (We previously heard it still had a few kinks to work out, so presumably that’s what’s presently going on).

GPT-4 Turbo will be available in the “coming weeks,” so it should arrive soon enough, and you’ll be able to experience the difference it makes for you in terms of the chatbot’s accuracy while answering to your queries.

It’s also amazing to see Dall-E 3 getting an upgrade, as it’s already a fantastic picture production engine. (Recall the rush to use the feature when it was originally released, due to the remarkable findings that were published online).
The search query enhancements, including Deep Search capabilities and refined picture searching, will work in tandem with the preceding changes to make Copilot significantly stronger on several fronts. (However, we are concerned about the possibility for abuse using Edge’s inline rewrite feature).

All of this forward movement for Copilot comes as we recently learned that Google is delaying its AI advancements, pushing some big launches back to the beginning of 2024. Microsoft isn’t taking any chances with Copilot, and Google must strike a balance between keeping up and pushing so hard that mistakes occur.
