Look no further than the Samsung Galaxy A13 if you want a decent smartphone that won’t break the budget. Simply said, it’s ‘good enough’ in most areas that are important for a smartphone (from the camera to the battery life), and its super-low pricing (which will continue to fall) makes it an appealing value-for-money proposition.
Simple aesthetic with an eye-catching appeal. The Galaxy A13 mixes soothing colors with a soft-touch style and feel. The refined curves make it easy to grasp and navigate the screen.
On the aesthetic front, the Galaxy A13 feels like a long-lasting phone, with a 6.6-inch, 2408 x 1080 LCD screen that works well with websites, images, videos, and games. It’s sufficiently bright, vibrant, and clear, and while there’s no support for HDR or refresh rates above 60Hz, we didn’t have any major complaints in this area.
There’s no question that spending a little more money will buy you a phone camera that takes substantially better photographs, but the Samsung Galaxy A13 won’t let you down if your expectations aren’t sky-high. Similarly, when it comes to performance, you’ll be able to run whatever you want to run, but at slower speeds than you would with a more expensive device.
Design of the Samsung Galaxy A13
- Design that is solid and standard
- Four different hues are available.
- There is no waterproofing or dustproofing.
Depending on where you are in the world, you can get the Samsung Galaxy A13 in black, white, peach, or blue, and we have the white version to evaluate. The style is fairly basic and plastic, which is to be expected at this budget point, but it’s also attractively curved and extremely well put together.
In other words, it feels like a phone that will last, and we appreciate how the rear camera module is incorporated into the back of the phone, up in the upper left corner, as Samsung does with all of its Galaxy devices this year.
At first sight, you may think this is a more costly phone than it is, and when that happens, you know the design and engineering teams did a good job.
Display of the Samsung Galaxy A13
- 6.6-inch LCD screen
- No HDR support
- Standard 60Hz refresh rate
The Samsung Galaxy A13 has a 6.6-inch, 2408 x 1080 LCD screen that displays websites, images, videos, and games well. It’s sufficiently bright, vibrant, and clear, and while HDR and refresh rates above 60Hz aren’t supported, we didn’t have any major concerns about the display.
Samsung Galaxy A13 camera
- Quad-lens rear camera
- 1080p, 30fps video recording
- Does okay in low light
The Samsung Galaxy A13, like many other low-cost phones, has more lens than you may anticipate, but they don’t do anything.
There are four in total: a 50MP broad sensor, a 5MP ultrawide sensor, a 2MP macro sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor. It’s worth noting that the Samsung Galaxy A13 5G offered in the United States lacks the ultrawide camera, thus you get 5G at the expense of a camera.
On the video front, the handset is capable of recording 1080p video at 30 frames per second.
The 50MP main camera serves as the star of the show, and in ideal light and with enough time to keep the phone steady, you can obtain some truly great-looking shots. There is no optical zoom, but the digital zoom performs a good job of picking out details, and the HDR processing maintains features apparent in both darker and lighter areas.
Performance and specifications of the Samsung Galaxy A13
- Sluggish performance
- Expandable storage
- No 5G on the UK model
The Samsung Galaxy A13 review sample included a Snapdragon 850 engine, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card if needed.
You won’t be able to run the current version of Android on anything less, and there is the occasional stutter and lag when the phone navigates through apps and menus.
Software for the Samsung Galaxy A13
- Weather widget is quite useful.
- Little bloatware
- Almost stock Android 12
You may rest easy knowing that the Galaxy A13 will receive regular patches and improvements for some time to come, since Samsung has been becoming better at providing timely Android updates in recent years.
As usually traditional with Samsung phones, you receive a ton of apps that are essentially just subpar copies of the entirety of what Google offers. These apps include a web browser, calendars, contacts, notes, photographs, and videos. Included are Samsung’s own apps for tracking fitness and managing smart homes.
Galaxy A13 battery life
- 5,000mAh of battery capacity
- Over a full day of usage
- Wired charging at 15 W
Because of the large battery and the less powerful components under the hood, the Galaxy A13’s 5,000mAh capacity battery will last you a day and maybe a little more with normal use. If you’re extremely careful, you can get two days out of this.
After an hour of low-volume video streaming and with the screen at its highest brightness, we tested the phone’s battery life. This resulted in a 10% reduction in battery life, or roughly 10 hours of playback overall. You could extend it further by dimming the screen, so long-distance movie watching would be fine.
