Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 expected to take design cues from Galaxy S24 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 could include a flatter, square-aspect-ratio inner display, resulting in a phone with a larger inner screen and cover display.

That is according to reliable smartphone tech tipster Ice Universe, who said on X that the upcoming Galaxy Fold could be bigger and feature screen edges closer to a genuine right angle. If this is the true, as SamMobile notes, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 could sport a screen style similar to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

A larger cover display would result in a larger overall design, with the cover screen most likely expanding to offer as much screen real estate as the OnePlus Open. While Samsung has improved the cover display on its Fold phones, they are still too thin to be used comfortably, especially if you have larger hands.

In the post, Ice Universe contrasts this to the screen design and central frame of the rectangular Nubia Z60 Ultra, providing a close-up of the phone to demonstrate the proposed style.

This would be a break from the established design of most Samsung folding phones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which typically has gentler curved edges. Ice Universe’s tip is consistent with a prior post from August of last year, which showed what was purported to be a prototype Samsung Fold with a similar angular appearance.

Go brave with Fold

The last several generations of Galaxy Fold models have only included iterative design tweaks over their predecessors, and while they have combined to make the Fold 5 one of the greatest foldable phones, there is still room for improvement.

We’d want to see titanium utilized on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 to help make it stronger and lighter, potentially paving the path for further design changes. However, no rumors of this have surfaced thus far.

Instead, a recent rumor suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 would feature another 50MP camera rather than the far more spectacular 200MP sensor found in the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which many fans had hoped for.

The remaining camera system on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to contain the same 12MP ultra-wide, 10MP cover display front camera, and 4MP under-display camera as the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6’s release date is presently unknown, but it is slated to arrive in July, with another recent rumor indicating that it would be joined by the Galaxy Ring.
